Woman gives water to koala as heatwave strikes Australia

The UK's summer heatwave may be long gone, but the mercury is currently soaring Down Under - with the country enduring one of its hottest Decembers ever.

The temperature hit a scorching 40 degrees Celsius in Strathmerton, Victoria on Friday (December 28), when a thirsty koala was filmed drinking from a woman's water bottle.

"My first thought was that the poor little fella needs a drink," said Chantelle Lowrie, who had noticed the koala when driving past.

The record heatwave has prompted fire bans and health warnings across Australia.
