Man arrested in north London for refusing to turn off gas

A man has been arrested in north London on suspicion of intent to endanger life after reportedly refusing demands from the police to turn his gas off and risking an explosion.

The Met Police said: "Police were called to Maybank Road, Woodford, at 10pm on Saturday following reports of a gas leak.

"It was reported that an occupant was refusing to come out or turn the gas off."

The man was removed from the building shortly after midnight and arrested.

Some residents were evacuated but have since been allowed to return to their homes.
