Driver deliberately ploughs into nightclub staff

This shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a driver ploughed into door staff at a nightclub after they had thrown him out.

Shailem Dodson, 20, had been evicted from the Halo nightclub in Bournemouth after complaints had been made about his behaviour in the outside smoking area.

He returned in his car before mounting the pavement and crashing through the club's metal barriers - colliding with head doorman Rafael Zanin at speed, knocking him over and causing head and shoulder injuries.

The car then collided with a lamp post and Dodson got out of the vehicle and attempted to run away.

Passing members of the public who witnessed the incident chased after him and restrained him before police officers arrived.

Dodson, a former soldier, was jailed for 16 months after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, drink-driving and assault by beating. He was cleared of attempted murder and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent after a trial at Winchester Crown Court.

Dorset Police said tests showed he had had more than twice the legal alcohol limit in his system, the BBC reported.

Janick Fielding, defending, said Dodson, of Blandford Camp, had struggled for a long time with his mental health as well as with drink and drugs and had twice been sectioned under the Mental Health Act following his arrest on December 12 last year.
