Teenage boy ‘critical’ following HGV collision

A teenager is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by an HGV.

The 15-year-old boy was on foot in Strathaven, South Lanarkshire, when he was struck at around 9.25pm on Saturday.

Emergency services were sent to the scene in Townhead Street and the boy was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride.

Hospital staff treating the teenager said he remained in a critical condition.

Police had been looking to trace the vehicle, believing it was possible the driver had not realised the boy had been hit.

The driver and HGV involved have now been traced.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the road policing unit at Motherwell on the 101 number, quoting incident number 4071 of December 1.
