Man arrested after unexplained death of woman in Amesbury

A man has been arrested following the unexplained death of a woman in Wiltshire.

A 51-year-old man from Salisbury has been detained in connection with the incident, Wiltshire Police said.

The force said officers received a call on the afternoon of November 30 expressing concern for the welfare of a woman at an address in Bence Court, Amesbury.

Officers attended the property and found the body of the woman aged in her thirties, whose death is being treated as unexplained.

The death is not thought to be linked to the Novichok incidents in Salisbury and Amesbury earlier this year.

Detective Inspector Gemma Davies, who is leading the investigation, said: “Firstly, I would like to express my condolences to the family of the woman who died.

“They are being supported by specialist officers and are being kept updated on our investigation.

“Although we do not yet know how she died, we are keeping an open mind about whether or not there were any suspicious circumstances.

“Due to this, there will be a police presence at the property in Bence Court for the rest of the weekend while we carry out our enquiries.

“I would urge anyone who thinks they may have information which could assist with our investigation to please contact police.”
