Giggling baby's laugh caused by rare brain tumour

Parents who thought their baby was happy because he 'giggled' for up to 17 hours a day were shocked to discover he actually had a rare brain tumour.

Gemma and Ed Young noticed that their son Jack started making chuckling sounds two weeks after he was born.

When the infant continued to make the noises they eventually sought medical advice.

That's when doctors discovered that the laughing fits were triggered by a hypothalamic hamartoma, a type of brain tumour that causes epileptic seizures.

With the diagnosis in place, doctors had to wait until Jack turned two to carry out the delicate operation to remove the tumour.
