Elephant captured in Indian city after it killed a man

Forest officials in India's northern Haridwar city on Friday captured an elephant after it killed a man in the residential area.

An operation was launched during which bait was offered to the animal and it was captured after being tranquilized.

The elephant will be kept under observation in the Chilla elephant camp for some time where its behaviour will be analysed.

Elephant attacks in India have increased in recent years.

Forest officials have cited the mammal's growing familiarity with human civilization and the fast diminishing of forest areas as the reason behind their movement into residential areas.
