A kitten that was glued to a busy road by its paws was rescued by a driver on his way to work.

Chuck Hawley found the five-week-old kitten, which had some kind of glue on its paws, neck and tail.

He saw several vehicles drive over the cat before he could rescue it in Silverton, Oregon, last Friday.

He said it was incredible the kitten wasn’t hit by a car.

Mr Hawley brought the animal to vet Jenny Bate, who said it was clear that the glue was put on the kitten deliberately.

She was able to remove the glue using mineral oil and the kitten should make a full recovery, the Salem Statesman Journal reported.

Mr Hawley and his wife will adopt the kitten, which they have named Sticky.

Marion County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Baldridge said if Mr Hawley files a crime report, his agency will investigate. So far, no report has been filed.

Mr Hawley wrote on Facebook: “So I’m driving down the road this morning and the cars in front of me are driving over a black thing in the road.

“It’s going between their tyres so I’m guessing it’s a box. It’s a kitten just sitting upright shaking like a leaf.

“I thought maybe it walked through glue somewhere but after looking at it, that was totally spread into her paws. She was wet and freezing and literally glued to the road.

“I slammed on my brakes and stopped all the traffic and put my hazards on and got out and peeled her off the road.

“So after a bath and some food and cream we have a new kitten. Luckiest kitten in the world!”
