Couple told to remove flowers after 30 years

A green-fingered couple have been ordered by their local council to remove a "dangerous" flowerbed they planted near their home... 30 years ago.

Brian and Sally Williams planted the blooms on the narrow lane in the village where they live to encourage wildlife and bring colour to the area.

But Sheffield Council sent a letter to the pair saying they had a week to remove the flowerbed or pay for it to be done by the authority.

The letter has prompted a 3,000-strong petition from fellow villagers demanding the feature is allowed to remain on the roadside verge opposite the couple's home.
