“We love Jack and I am so excited to have a son, a brother and a best friend,” she wrote on Twitter.

The Duke of York similarly was full of praise for his youngest daughter’s long-term love.

“Jack is an absolutely outstanding young man and Eugenie and he have got to know each other over a number of years, and I’m really thrilled for them,” the duke wrote in a personal tweet.

Eugenie first encountered the Stowe-educated socialite after meeting through friends on a ski trip near Verbier.

Accomplished skier Mr Brooksbank revealed in their engagement interview with BBC’s The One Show: “We were skiing which was amazing. Love at first sight.”

Eugenie, who cried when Mr Brooksbank proposed on holiday in Nicaragua, said: “We have the same passions and drive for life.”

The 32-year-old is a brand manager of Casamigos Tequila, which was co-founded by actor George Clooney.

After studying at Bristol University, Mr Brooksbank began a career in the hospitality industry, working in Brompton Brands venues in London including celebrity hangouts The Punchbowl and Whisky Mist.

He went on to become the manager of royal hotspot Mahiki, a former favourite of the Duke of Sussex’s and Eugenie’s sister Princess Beatrice.

Mr Brooksbank also helped launch Mexican-themed pub Tonteria in Chelsea, which was co-founded by Harry’s close pal Guy Pelly, and led to Mr Brooksbank’s job with tequila brand Casamigos.

Evenings are spent together, relaxing, watching TV.

His grandmother has described him as a “charming boy” but joked he was not the “most intelligent”.

Joanna Newton, 91, told MailOnline: “I never thought he would get married to a royal.

“He’s a charming boy and all that but not the most intelligent and I would never have thought this would happen.”

The pensioner described him as a “good egg” and said: “I think it says a lot about Eugenie that it’s him she wants and it’s lovely.”
