From the England football team trying to ignite their UEFA Nations League campaign to Lewis Hamilton fighting for a fifth Formula 1 world title, there's an exciting line-up of sport to keep you on the edge of your seat this month.
UFC - McGregor v Nurmagomedov - 6 October
MMA superstar Conor McGregor will return to the octagon after a near-two-year absence to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight championship at UFC 229. Following his defeat to Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring this summer the Irishman will be keen to reclaim the UFC belt he lost in April due to inactivity. However, the unbeaten champion Nurmagomedev, who has a record 26 fights, 26 wins, eight by KO and eight by submission, will be no push over and doesn't believe McGregor eve deserves a shot at his belt.

Formula 1 - Japan GP - 7 October; USA GP - 21 October; Mexico GP - 28 October
There will be three crucial rounds of the Formula 1 world championship in October as Lewis Hamilton looks to stretch his lead in the drivers' championship over the likes of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Tennis - Shanghai Masters from 8 October
Andy Murray is expected to be among the contenders for this prestigious ATP tournament where he has lifted the trophy on three previous occasions. His injury blighted 2018 season will likely come to a close after this event, so find out if he can end the year on a high in China.
Cricket - England v Sri Lanka from 10 October
Joe Root's England were on fine form in their home series victory over India this summer, now they face a trip overseas to play five one-dayers, three Test matches and one T20 international against a strong Sri Lankan squad.
Golf - British Masters from 11 October
World number one Justin Rose will lead a star-studded field as they take on the course at Walton Heath golf course in Surrey. Former Major champions Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell will be competing, as will former world number ones in Luke Donald and Lee Westwood.
Football - UEFA Nations League - Croatia v England - 12 October; Spain v England - 15 October
Having got their UEFA Nations League campaign off to a shaky start losing 2-1 to Spain, England will be looking to bounce back as they play their next two group games. Captain Harry Kane will no doubt have revenge on his mind when he leads the Three Lions out against Croatia, the side that knocked England out this summer's World Cup.
Football - Premier League - throughout October
The race for the Premier League is now well underway with Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea all displaying their title-winning credentials. Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United will be looking to gain ground in the race for Champions League places, while the rest of the league will be scrambling to avoid a Christmas period in the bottom half of the division.
Boxing - Terence Crawford v Jose Benavidez - 13 October
Terence Crawford will return home to Nebraska make the first defence of his WBO World Welterweight Title against unbeaten Jose Benavidez. Crawford, who has won all 33 of his professional contests, showed why many consider him the world's number one pound-for-pound boxer when he took the WBO crown from Jeff Horn in June.
