Man charged with manslaughter after father found dead at home following crash

A 21-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a father-of-two in Nottingham.

Stephen Walsh's body was found at his home at 5.55am on Monday, the day after he was involved in a car crash in the area.

Police said the 37-year-old had suffered serious head injuries in an assault at the property on Sunday night.

Nottinghamshire Police said Oliver Brown has now been charged with the manslaughter of Mr Walsh but the force have asked for people "not to seek any retribution" against him.

Detective Chief Inspector Hayley Williams, of East Midlands Special Operations Unit - Major Crime Nottinghamshire, said: "I would like to thank the people of Nottinghamshire for the response to my media appeal earlier this week. Several important witnesses came forward as a result.

"I'm aware that feelings are running high about this case and I totally understand that.

"I would implore the community to carry on supporting Stephen's family, but also not to seek any retribution against Oliver and his family.

"Oliver's family have been entirely co-operative with the police investigation and do not deserve repercussions for an act they had no involvement in."

Ms Williams added: "Oliver himself will now face trial to ascertain if he was criminally responsible for Stephen's death.

"As the case is now in the criminal justice system, I will make no further comment until the conclusion of the trial."

Brown, of Digby Avenue, Mapperley, is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
