Artists and fans enjoy the sunshine at TRNSMT music festival

Scotland's big summer music event, TRNSMT, has kicked off in Glasgow, with around 40,000 revellers enjoying their favourite acts in soaring temperatures.

The Stereophonics are headlining the first day of the festival, which saw earlier performances by Jessie J and Kodaline. James Bay, The Script and Tom Walker are also on the line-up.

With a minimum temperature of 25C (77F) on Friday, music fans were applying the sunscreen and glugging from water bottles as they enjoyed the acts from two stages at Glasgow Green.

Tom Walker, whose song Leave A Light On has been a huge hit across Europe - reaching number one in France - as well as in the UK, said the good weather has been following him wherever he goes.

Walker, who has just returned from playing two festivals in Germany, said: "We've got 35 festivals this summer. The weather has been amazing everywhere we've been.

"I'm just so grateful for everyone supporting the song, because it's gone totally mad around Europe, and then full circle back to the UK."

The singer-songwriter, who was born in Glasgow, said TRNSMT looked like a "wicked" event.

"I've been absolutely buzzing about this for a couple of months now. It's an honour to be here, I'm really excited," he said.

TRNSMT is in its second year after taking over from T in the Park as Scotland's major summer music event.

Around 140,000 fans are expected in Glasgow over the first weekend of the festival.

Saturday's line-up includes Wolf Alice, Courteeners and a headline performance by Liam Gallagher.

Miles Kane, Interpol and the Arctic Monkeys will play the festival on Sunday, among others.

The following weekend will see performances from Queen + Adam Lambert, Texas, Jessie Ware and The Killers.

Organiser Geoff Ellis of DF Concerts said: "There's few places more beautiful in the sunshine than Glasgow and from the moment Picture This kicked things off on the main stage, the atmosphere has been unreal.

"We've got two whole weekends filled with incredible names, the most delicious street food, the greatest audience in the world and to top it off, the best weather we've seen in Scotland in a long time."

Superintendent David Pettigrew from Police Scotland: "We encourage those attending over the rest of the weekend to come prepared for the warm weather and to know what they can and can't bring on site so they can have an enjoyable festival."
