Man charged after 14-hour armed siege

A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with a 14-hour armed siege in Oxford.

Duncan Shearman, of Paradise Square, Oxford, has been charged with one count of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and three counts of possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid or gas.

He will appear later at Banbury Magistrates' Court.

Police said the incident, sparked by reports of a man with a gun, ended peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday.

Thames Valley Police said officers returned fire when shots came from a property in Paradise Square in the city centre.

Nearby streets were cordoned off by officers from about 1.15pm on Monday until about 3am.
