Fallout at British Wheel of Yoga leads to double resignation

The calm of the yoga community appears to have been disturbed, with the resignation of two top officials.

Apparent discontent about a "dysfunctional and unworkable governance structure" has prompted the chairman and vice-chairwoman of the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) to step down.

In a statement on the BWY website, chairman Paul Fox and vice-chairwoman Shelagh Mackenzie said they had sent a resignation letter to the national executive committee, outlining "detailed reasons" for leaving their posts.

They told members their three main reasons for resigning were: "Our inability to discharge our duty of care to BWY staff due to the actions of the NEC and others; the dysfunctional and unworkable governance structure of BWY which is in urgent need of reform; the unwillingness of the current NEC to take what we believe are necessary decisions to move the organisation forwards."

BWY describes itself as the UK's foremost yoga charity.
