Mustang driver mowed down teenager after 'prized' car damaged, court told

A driver killed a teenager by deliberately mowing down a moped after his "prized" red Mustang was damaged, a court heard.

Bradley Clifford, 24, allegedly chased the scooter at speed in his high-powered car after becoming enraged when Sobhan Khan, 18, probably hit it with a bottle, prosecutors said.

Moped passenger Mr Khan, who was fatally injured, and 19-year-old driver Jashua Francis, were flung into the air after the "rapid, brutal and unrelenting" pursuit in Enfield, north London, in the early hours of August 5 last year.

Once they realised they were being chased, the pair drove into oncoming traffic lanes and tried to mount the pavement in a failed escape attempt, Old Bailey jurors heard on Wednesday.

Prosecuting, Aftab Jafferjee QC, said: "The moped was no match for the might of the Mustang."

Lying motionless and catastrophically injured, Mr Khan was then allegedly beaten by Clifford after he got out of his car when it became tangled with the moped.

Mr Jafferjee said: "It was rapid, it was brutal and it was unrelenting.

"He pursued the moped down a straight stretch of road at speed.

"Not to apprehend the two people on it, but to mow them down for daring to damage his prized vehicle.

"As Sobhan Khan lay virtually motionless, totally defenceless and fatally injured, such was this defendant's rage that he went over to him and beat him."

Mr Francis escaped "somewhat miraculously" with minor injuries, he added.

Tempers had earlier flared after a disagreement between two groups of young people outside a bar shortly after 3am, resulting in a proposed fight at a nearby car park, jurors heard.

Clifford, from Enfield, is accused of murdering Mr Khan and attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent on Mr Francis.

He denies the charges.
