Home-owners 'not spooked by Friday 13th as moving-in date'

Home-owners do not appear to be put off by the idea of moving on "unlucky" Friday 13th, figures from a building society suggest.

With April 13 falling on Friday this week, Yorkshire Building Society said it often sees above-average numbers of mortgage completions on the that date.

Data from the building society shows that of nine Fridays falling on the 13th day of the month over the last five years, five have seen a higher-than-average number of customers moving house on that day.

For example, on Friday October 13 2017, completions were up by 5% compared with the usual daily average for that month.

And on Friday December 13 2013, the Yorkshire witnessed a 64% increase in mortgage applications compared with the December 2013 average daily number of completions.

Janice Barber, mortgage manager at Yorkshire Building Society, said the superstition surrounding Friday 13th "doesn't seem to get in the way of people moving house".
