Lib Dem leader completes 117 mile charity run

Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie has completed a gruelling 117 mile run to raise funds for a mental health charity.

The MSP ran the Fife Coastal Path from Kincardine to Newburgh over the Easter weekend and celebrated by popping a bottle of fizz at the finish line.

Mr Rennie, who is a keen distance runner, took on the challenge to raise £2,000 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) but more than trebled his target with £7,000 donated to the cause on Sunday.

Mr Rennie, who said the challenge was also to mark his 50th birthday last year, kept followers up to date with his progress on social media and tweeted on Sunday night after reaching Newburgh: "117 miles, thousands of metres of climbing. I've just completed the Fife Coast Trail.

"Thanks to all the runners who joined me along the way and to everyone who has donated."
