Range Rover Velar named the most beautiful car in the world
The Range Rover Velar has been awarded World Car Design of the Year at the 2018 World Car Awards in New York. The Velar is the fourth consecutive Jaguar Land Rover win in this category, joining the Jaguar F-Type, Range Rover Evoque, and Jaguar F-Pace in holding the accolade.
The World Car Awards is held at the New York International Auto Show and consists of six awards – World Car Design, World Green Car, World Urban Car, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car and the prestigious overall World Car of the Year award. They're judged by a consortium of automotive journalists from across the globe, and cars must have been sold on two or more continents to be eligible.

Land Rover's chief design officer, Gerry McGovern, said: "The continued evolution of our design philosophy is driven by a relentless focus on creating highly desirable vehicles our customers will love for life.
"The Range Rover Velar brings a new dimension of modernity to the Range Rover family, with an abundance of innovative technologies all making this vehicle a joy to drive and be driven in.

The Velar beat off the shortlisted Lexus LC 500 and Volvo XC60 to take the gong. The latter however did win the overall World Car of the Year title, beating the Velar and the CX-5 to the post.
Elsewhere, the World Urban Car award was won by the Volkswagen Polo, World Luxury Car by the Audi A8, World Performance Car by the BMW M5 and World Green Car by the Nissan Leaf.
