Dashcam footage captures £160k Bentley smashing into pensioner's SUV

A terrifying video has emerged of the moment a high-end Bentley supercar smashed into an SUV in Old Amersham, Buckinghamshire. The SUV, a Ford Kuga driven by 74-year-old Tim Edwards, was negotiating a give-way junction and was left with nowhere to turn when the superpowered convertible drove towards him at 85mph.

The Bentley, a 500+bhp Continental GT driven by 46-year-old Richard Plum, crashed into the Kuga and sent it spinning through 360 degrees into a garden wall.

Edwards survived the crash uninjured. "I was in a pretty sturdy car which took the impact well otherwise it could've been a lot worse," he said.

His car automatically phoned the emergency services when it detected the impact, which Edwards was delighted with. "These modern cars are able to contact emergency services automatically on impact and an ambulance arrived within five minutes followed by a fire engine and police."

Plum and Edwards both left the scene without speaking to each other. However Plum also left before emergency services arrived. This led to him being served a 14-month jail sentence and a four-year, seven-month driving ban, after admitting dangerous driving and failing to stop.

Edwards said: "The other driver was more seriously injured, he'd left blood all over his airbag. He climbed out of the driver's side window, called a friend who arrived a few minutes later in another car and they drove off."
