Lancia Stratos reborn as super-limited edition 550bhp monster

Manufacturers like looking to the past when creating new cars, but when it came to recreating the Lancia Stratos, it didn't fall to parent company Fiat Chrysler. Instead, a low-volume manufacturer called Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) has taken the reins, and will create a modern re-imagining of the rally-bred icon.

The New Stratos (don't call it a Lancia) is actually based on a 2010 concept car that MAT built for German automotive tycoon Michael Stoschek. However, while that concept was based on the chassis and running gear of a Ferrari F430, the Italian brand was not keen to share those parts for a production model, and quickly put the brakes on wider production.
