Convicted killer who went on the run arrested in north London

A convicted killer who went on the run after being released from prison on licence for the murder of a costume designer has been arrested at an address in north London.

Mark Woolley was jailed for life in 2001 for mowing down Elizabeth Sherlock when she tried to stop him snatching her handbag.

The 52-year-old had not been seen since a probation meeting on January 31, Scotland Yard said, and the public were warned not to approach him if seen.

The Metropolitan Police said the former heroin addict is now in custody after being arrested on Monday afternoon.

Woolley was convicted at the Old Bailey of killing Mrs Sherlock after she chased his then-girlfriend Jackie Moorehouse, who had pinched her bag.

He was released on licence from HMP Ranby in Nottinghamshire in November.
