Kate dazzles in stylish gown at black-tie dinner

The Duchess of Cambridge wowed Swedish society in an eye-catching dress when she and the duke were guests of honour at a black-tie dinner.

William and Kate dined with Hollywood stars Alicia Vikander and Stellan Skarsgard, a billionaire businessman, leading politicians, television celebrities and Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden.

For the occasion staged at the Stockholm residence of Britain's Ambassador to Sweden David Cairns, Kate wore a multicoloured silk Erdem gown, decorated in florals.

The royal couple and guests dined on Scottish smoked salmon and guinea fowl as they enjoyed the company of newfound friends.

William and Kate began the evening with a short meeting with Sweden's Prime Minister Stefan Lofven and his wife Ulla, describing their visit to the host country thus far.

The duke could not resist telling them about his prowess at bandy, the hockey-like game the royal couple played when they first arrived in Stockholm, saying he was proud to have scored a goal in the penalty shoot-out his wife lost.

The duchess, who laughed and patted him affectionately on the arm, insisted: "I let him win."

During dinner Kate sat between the ambassador and Skarsgard, best known for his roles in the Thor and Pirates Of The Caribbean movies.

William sat near the ambassador's wife Sharon Cairns and Vikander, who won the 2016 Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in the film The Danish Girl, and is married to actor Michael Fassbender.

Other guests included billionaire H&M chairman Stefan Persson, reportedly Sweden's richest person, foreign minister Margot Wallstrom and Peter Wolodarski, a journalist and television host.

The guests dined on a starter of Scottish smoked salmon with quail egg and horseradish cream on a bed of salad, followed by guinea fowl with stir-fried vegetables and mashed potatoes.

For dessert, they enjoyed blackberry souffle with chocolate ganache, before a selection of British cheeses.

To drink, they were offered a selection of Wiston Estate Cuvee Brut from the South Downs in England, Stopham Estate Pinot Gris from Sussex and port from Berry Bros and Rudd.
