Murder probe detectives say taxi driver could have vital information

Detectives investigating the murder of a 53-year-old man in east Belfast believe a taxi driver may have vital information to assist their investigation.

They have appealed for the taxi driver who picked up three males and one female in Belfast city centre at 2am on Saturday and dropped them in the London Road area of east Belfast to contact them.

Police launched a murder inquiry after the body of Mark Ponisi was found in the living room of a property at London Road off Ravenhill Avenue on Saturday.

He had sustained injuries to his head and face.

A 25-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were arrested at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery said: "We believe this taxi driver may have information that could prove vital to our investigation and would appeal directly to him to contact the investigation team at Musgrave Street by calling 101 and asking for extension 17712."
