Man appears in court charged with woman's knife murder

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a stabbing victim who was declared dead in the first minutes of 2018.

David Clark did not enter a plea at Worcester Magistrates' Court in a short hearing on Tuesday.

The 49-year-old, of Cloverdale, Bromsgrove, was charged with the murder of the 44-year-old woman after officers were called to his property at 11.52pm on New Year's Eve.

West Mercia Police said a woman who had suffered what is believed to be a knife injury was pronounced dead at an address in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, at 12.12am.

A force spokesman said next of kin have been informed of the Bromsgrove woman's death.

Inspector Jake Wright said: "I understand that this incident is concerning for local people.

"I'd like to reassure them that we will have extra officers in the area over the coming days and if anyone has any concerns they can speak to one of these officers."

Clark was remanded into custody by magistrates and was told to appear at Worcester Crown Court for a hearing on January 4.
