Five beauty products for winter

Winter takes its toll on our skin, be it chapped lips from the cold, dry skin from too much time indoors with the central heating on or dermatitis triggered by the plunging mercury. Here are five of the best products to help fend off the elements...

Burt's Bees Natural Lip Balm

Lips can be the most-visible (and painful) casualty when the weather turns cold, especially if you can't stop licking them. The solution is cheap and easy though, with a quick smear of lip balm creating a barrier between your kisser and the elements – and instantly soothing the soreness. Burt's Bees lip balms are 100 per cent natural and have beeswax as the star of the show, with antioxidant vitamin E and peppermint oil also in the mix to soothe and refresh your lips.

Kiehls Creme de Corps Nourishing Dry Body Oil, £35

Cold weather, harsh dry air and wind can all leave skin feeling dry and scaly – especially as we get older. Using body oil is a great way to restore a feeling of health and vitality by softening and smoothing the skin. Kiehls Creme de Corps Nourishing Dry Body Oil is scented with vanilla and almond and contains squalane and grapeseed oil. It sprays on in a fine mist, leaving skin dry to the touch.

Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream, £29

We don't get as much sun in the winter months, but what we do get can still have an impact on your skin – and many beauty experts advise using a moisturiser with a decent sun protection factor all year round.
Clinique's Moisture Surge CC Cream is not the cheapest, but it absorbs beautifully – as you'd expect – and has an SPF 30 rating.

Neal's Yard Remedies Soothing Bath Oil, £9.83

It's not just about protecting your skin while out facing the elements, you can also give it a treat at home by adding a little something special to your bath. Neal's Yard Remedies Soothing Bath Oil has an organic almond base to soften your skin and also contains sunflower and soya oils. With a fragrant aromatherapy blend of lavender, geranium, bergamot and cypress it promises to relax body and mind at the same time as rejuvenating your skin.

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads, £9.06

Winter skin can look grey and tired. Putting acid on your skin may seem counter-intuitive if you're trying to look after it, but glycolic acid is the hottest ticket in exfoliation right now – and plenty of experts swear by it. The way it works is by weakening the lipids which hold dead skin cells to the body, thus exposing fresh and younger-looking skin. Glycolic acid is particularly useful for reducing scarring, skin discolouration and mild signs of ageing. These Nip+Fab cleansing pads also contain blue daisy to soothe skin.
