Partridge Family star David Cassidy dies at 67

Seventies teen idol David Cassidy has died. He was 67.

The singer and actor passed away in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Tuesday after suffering from multiple organ failure.

A family statement read: "David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long."

Born to entertainer parents, Cassidy became a household name when he was cast as Keith Partridge in musical sitcom The Partridge Family in 1970.

Following the show's demise, Cassidy went on to become a solo star and sold over 30 million records.

At one point, his fan club was bigger than The Beatles and Elvis Presley.

In recent years, Cassidy openly battled alcoholism, resulting in several arrests for drink driving and spells in rehab.

Earlier this year, the star announced he was quitting touring after finding out he had dementia.

He was divorced three times and has two children, Katie and Beau.
