According to the Standard, a spokesperson for the Air Station, Lieutenant Commander Leslie Hubbell, said: "The actions of this aircrew were wholly unacceptable and antithetical to Navy core values.

"We have grounded the aircrew and are conducting a thorough investigation - and we will hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

"The Navy apologises for this irresponsible and immature act."

While the Air Station did not find it funny, some people online clearly did. One wrote: "It's a bird....it's a plane...it's a....sweet holy moses."

Another simply wrote: "Sorry but that is funny!"

According to the Independent, Vice Admiral Mike Shoemaker, the commander of Naval Air Forces, said in a statement: "Sophomoric and immature antics of a sexual nature have no place in Naval aviation today.

"We will investigate this incident to get all the facts and act accordingly."
