Vintage Peugeot race car breaks records at auction

An ancient Peugeot L45 race car has smashed auction records for the brand, after selling at auction for an astonishing £5.5 million. The 104-year-old racer, dubbed 'the father of all race cars', was built at a time when France led the way in car production and innovation.

The L45 used a revolutionary (at the time!) 4.5-litre engine which pumped out 112bhp. That gave it a top speed of over 100mph, ample performance to make it one of the more successful cars of its time – and ensured that jealous rivals would immediately begin to copy its design.
