Police officer stabbed in the back during Edinburgh incident

A police officer has been stabbed after being called out to a college in Edinburgh.

The man was stabbed in the back at Edinburgh College in the Granton area of the city on Monday morning.

Police had been called to reports of a man threatening to harm himself and others shortly after 9am.

The officer was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury and a man has been detained in connection with the incident.

The officer is being treated for his injuries at the city's Royal Infirmary.

Police Scotland said the incident is being treated as an isolated one.

A force spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh were called to an address in West Granton Road around 9.10am on Monday following a report of concern for a man who was allegedly threatening to harm himself and others.

"An officer in attendance sustained a non life-threatening injury to his back and has been taken by the Scottish Ambulance Service to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

"A man is detained in connection with this incident, which is currently being treated as isolated."
