Will Asda be taking part in Black Friday 2017?

Asda's US owner, Walmart, was behind the decision to import Black Friday to the UK in 2013.

It was one of only a handful of companies offering major discounts, and it went down a storm.

The shopping event started in the US in the 1950s and 1960s and falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The American holiday happens on the fourth Thursday of November each year.

When is Black Friday 2017?

But, while Asda was one of the stores that helped to bring the Black Friday tradition to the UK, in 2015 and last year they decided to abstain from joining in.

Instead they held a number of sale days throughout November, a reasonable indication at the time that they would not be taking part - but what about this year?

There is currently little indication either one way or the other, and we do still have three weeks to wait until the bargain day arrives.

However, the majority of shops that take part in the UK now don't just reserve their sales for the big day itself with plenty of outlets opting for a whole week or even ten days of discounts.

Black Friday 2017: The best deals on offer

The store is currently offering some great discount deals on their George clothing range with as much as 25% off selected adult pieces.

Meanwhile the Asda home and garden section is also hosting plenty of cut price offers so is well worth a look if you're looking to spruce up the house or outdoors before Christmas.

While we have no definitive news about whether or not Asda will be taking part you can keep up to date with all the top Black Friday news on our dedicated AOL Money hub page here.
