Plane food is often edible at best but now an airline chef has revealed the two dishes you should order for a tasty meal at 30,000ft: fried rice and stews.

Fritz Gross, director of culinary excellence at LSG Sky Chefs Asia Pacific, says that these are easily reheated and maintain their flavour in the air.

Speaking to CNN, he said: "We can simmer it and reheat it over and over and it will still be a stew."

Revealing the dishes you should never order on a flight, Gross said pasta is a poor choice as it needs to be cooked al dente to taste good and chicken usually dries out.

When it comes to dessert, one expert says you should stick to frozen treats.

Nikos Loukas, creator of aviation website InFlightFeed, told Insider: "Ice cream is really good.

"It tastes the same in the air as it does on the ground."

Meanwhile, you might want to skip that post-dinner cuppa. The water used in your hot beverage probably comes from the plane's water tank, which probably isn't clean. One flight attendant revealed online: "We call it the 'galley springs.' It's basically the same water in the plane's holding tanks that they use for the toilets. As far as I know, the tanks have never been cleaned. Ever."

Another anonymous flight attendant wrote on an online forum: "The water from the plane is disgusting. I feel truly sorry for our coffee and hot water drinkers."
