First Lady Melania Trump criticises 'attention-seeking' Ivana Trump

Updated

Melania Trump has issued a statement criticising the first wife of her husband, President Donald Trump.

The Slovenian model, 47, was unimpressed by Ivana Trump, 68, joking that she was the "first lady".

Promoting her new book Raising Trump, Ivana told Good Morning America: "I have the direct number to White House, but I no [sic] really want to call him there because Melania is there.

"I don't want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that because I'm basically first Trump wife. I'm first lady, OK."

In response, the actual First Lady of the White House said: "Mrs Trump has made the White House a home for Barron and The President.

"She loves living in Washington, DC and is honoured by her role as First Lady of the United States. She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books.

"There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex. Unfortunately only attention seeking and self-serving noise."

Ivana and Donald were married from 1997-1992 and had three children together, but divorced when he had an affair with Marla Maples, who became his second wife.
