21 injured in Barcelona bakery explosions

At least 21 people have been injured after two explosions went off in a bakery in Barcelona.

The first, and biggest, explosion took place at around 7am, followed by a smaller second explosion.

The bakery is on the first floor of a seven-storey building on Carrer de la Marina, just a mile from the tourist hotspot Las Ramblas, and blocks away from the famous La Sagrada Familia.

It's thought the explosions were caused by gas. One person is thought to be fighting for life, eight are in a serious condition and 12 have minor injuries, reports the Metro.

According to The Sun, Belen Ortega, who lives in the building, said: 'I heard a very strong explosion and the building shook.

"I woke up, I saw flames and then smoke. I went to get my son and when I went out there were firefighters – they were very fast."
