Man falls off bridge and dies after proposal
A Japanese man has died after falling from a bridge moments after he proposed to his girlfriend.
The incident occurred on the central part of the Irabu Bridge, which links the Miyako and Irabu islands in Okinawa, Japan.
The couple had been driving over the bridge when they pulled over and the man popped the question.
When his girlfriend said yes, he reportedly jumped onto a railing and spread his arms out to celebrate, but lost his balance and fell 30 metres (100ft) into the sea, according to the Metro.
A search and rescue was launched after his girlfriend called emergency services, and his body was found in the sea around seven hours later, reports the Straits Times.
The Irabu Bridge opened in 2015 and spans 11.614ft between the two islands.
The bridge has turned into something of a tourist attraction as it's the longest toll-free bridge in Japan with free access to everyone.
Back in 2015, a woman fell to her death after her boyfriend proposed to her on top of a cliff in the popular Ibiza resort of Cala Tarida.
Dimitrina Dimitrova, 29, reportedly lost her balance at the beauty spot, and suffered a heart attack after falling 65ft from the cliff edge.
