Mercedes confirms EQ electric hatchback concept for Frankfurt
Mercedes has confirmed it will unveil an all-new electric hatchback at the Frankfurt motor show.
Called the EQ A, says its latest hatchback that will go on sale in 2020.
The EQ A is as an all-electric hatchback, and is expected to cost under £40,000, rivaling the likes of BMWs i3 and the Volkswagen I.D.
It is a thoroughly modern hatchback in terms of design. It forms part of Mercedes' €10 billion plan for 10 new electric models by 2025.
On the outside the design is very dramatic with curvaceous bodywork and sharply designed lighting front and rear.
A distinctive radiator grille sits between the headlights and mimics that of the current Mercedes GLE, except it is hued in blue lighting to denote it as an electric Mercedes.
The interior is equally bold with a minimalist look. Lots of touch-sensitive equipment and a huge amount of glass flood light into the cockpit mean it is just as modern inside as the exterior would suggest.
Mercedes will also offer EQ customers a charging infrastructure that will include a wall box that can be mounted outside a house for easy charging.
This is used via a free app that Mercedes has developed. Called 'Charge&Pay,' it allows owners to conveniently recharge their car whether at home or out in public.
