UK weather: Autumn to be 'hotter than summer'

Brits are set to enjoy an Indian summer according to weather forecasters who say that temperatures will be hotter than usual for the next three months.

Highs of 32C are expected this autumn, with the warm weather likely to last from September to November.

Speaking to the Daily Star, The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: "It would be a freak occurrence - but September could well have a hotter UK average temperature than August this year, with forecast models showing much warmer than average temperatures for the UK for September."

This freak weather phenomenon has only occurred once in the last 60 years, according to Met Office records.

The Met Office says: "For September and September-November, above-average temperatures are more probable than below-average."

It says that this is a result of warmth associated with present high global temperatures.

September temperatures in previous years have reached highs of 30.2C in 2013, 29.3C in 2012 and 29.2C in 2011.

For the next few days, Britons can expect wet, windy and humid weather.

Monday will bring a damp start with brighter spells in the South, making it feel humid, while the North is wet and windy.

The Met Office says Tuesday to Thursday will see the rain move East before sunshine and showers on Wednesday, and wind in the North on Thursday.
