British golfer Lee Westood is facing a huge divorce contest as his wife of 16 years, Laurae, is thought to have accused him of cheating on her.

Westwood could be looking at a £50m settlement as a result of the legal papers that have been filed in Florida, USA.

The couple, who married in 1999, share two children and separated in 2015.

The golfer, who was awarded an OBE in 2011, has since moved on with new love interest, Helen Storey.

One of Laurae's family members spoke to The Sun about the issue, stating: "The whole thing is a mess. Both have made claims and it is unfortunately for the courts to decide how it ends up.

"Lee denies he's done anything wrong, but it's very sad given how long they've been together."

Westwood isn't the only golfer to have hit the headlines this year regarding their marriage.

Colin Montgomerie sued his estranged wife in March for £5m over what he says was an 'unfair post-nuptial agreement'.

He and wife Gaynor, 50, split up in 2015 and Montgomerie admitted that he cheated with another woman - and had signed a post-nuptial agreement in 2010.

Montgomerie disputed the fairness of the agreement and is seeking £5 million.
