Google fires engineer for anti-diversity memo

Google has fired a software engineer following his controversial anti-diversity memo.

Former employee James Damore said he was exploring his options after he was let go by the tech giant for "perpetuating gender stereotypes" on Monday.

Damore offended many when he wrote an internal memo last week, claiming women were biologically better suited to jobs other than engineering.

He wrote: "Distribution of preferences and abilities of men and women differ in part due to biological causes and that these differences may explain why we don't see equal representation of women in tech and leadership."

In an internal email, Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai said: "Portions of the memo violate our Code of Conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace."
