US Senator John McCain has brain cancer

US Republican Senator John McCain has revealed he is suffering from brain cancer.

The former Presidential candidate, 80, is said to be in "good spirits" and is resting at home following surgery.

The tumour was discovered during an operation to remove a blood clot last week.

A statement from the Mayo Clinic read: "The senator's doctors say he is recovering from his surgery 'amazingly well' and his underlying health is excellent.

"Treatment options may include a combination of chemotherapy and radiation."

President Donald Trump sent his wishes to McCain in a statement: "Senator John McCain has always been a fighter. Melania and I send our thoughts and prayers to Senator McCain, Cindy, and their entire family. Get well soon."
