Search launched for swimmer missing off south coast of Wales

An urgent search has been launched for a man who went missing while swimming in the sea off the south coast of Wales.

The man, said to be in his late 40s, was seen by the coastguard going into the sea in Caswell Bay, Swansea, at around 2.30pm on Wednesday.

South Wales Police said he was seen coming on to the shore from the footpath near the Redcliff Apartments before entering the sea at high tide and swimming breaststroke around the headland towards Brandy Cove.

The coastguard has carried out an "extensive" search but there have been no sightings or reports of the man, the force added.

They appealed for the swimmer, described as white, bald and wearing dark board shorts, or anyone who sees him to contact 101.
