Activists rescue dogs and cats destined for slaughterhouse

The Humane Society International recently shared the news of a remarkable rescue in China.

Writing in a news release on their website, they said: "On the eve of China's annual Yulin dog meat festival, Chinese activists have rescued up to 1,000 dogs and cats in Guangzhou from a truck headed to slaughterhouses in southern Guangdong."

They went on to add that more than 100 activists were involved in the rescue.

Reports from activists about the surviving dogs suggested that the animals were originally pets and had not been raised to be killed for meat.
