Jaguar teases new E-Pace SUV

Jaguar has teased the very first images of its new E-Pace crossover, nearly a month before the car is due to be revealed.

As the name might suggest, the E-Pace stands to be a smaller and less expensive option than the brand's first SUV, the F-Pace. In fact it will be the third in Jaguar's new range of high-riding vehicles, with the electric I-Pace already in production for a 2018 launch.

Details of the E-Pace are a little thin on the ground, although Jaguar has revealed an 'indicative price' of £28,500. That puts it roughly on a par with its brand sibling, the Range Rover Evoque, and the German rivals of BMW X1 and Audi Q3.

Jaguar also promises sports car-derived four-wheel drive, although it's not clear if that will be standard across the E-Pace range or only available on select models. As it uses the same platform as the Evoque, entry-level models could be front-wheel drive.

The engine line-up will be picked from the turbocharged Ingenium petrol and diesel units Jaguar produces. It's likely that Jaguar will use the smaller four-cylinder versions, although a sportier model using a six-cylinder version can't be ruled out.

Ian Callum, director of design at Jaguar, said: "The combination of sports car looks with Jaguar performance will ensure that the E-Pace stands out. Every Jaguar is designed to excite the senses, and we think E-Pace will do just that, albeit with its own individual character."
