Corbyn defies critics with vote share boost

Jeremy Corbyn has defied his critics, inside and outside of the party, with Labour winning a greater share of the vote than Tony Blair (2005), Gordon Brown (2010) and Ed Miliband (2015).

Having won two leadership elections since 2015, Labour's 40% national vote share, just two points behind the Tories, should cement his position at the head of the party for years to come.

It remains to be seen whether some Labour MPs will remain within the party or break away. But there can be no denying that they have benefited from the 'Corbyn effect' at the polls.
