A summer holiday in Bali, Orlando or Thailand costs less than Ibiza or Menorca, new research has revealed.

Comparing a number of destinations and prices, holiday price comparison site TravelSupermarket found that long-haul trips are coming up cheaper during the summer – making it possible to have a holiday of a lifetime in an exotic location for less than in some of Brits' Western Med summer favourites.

Searches on the holiday price comparison site showed that a fortnight's holiday to Phuket, Thailand costs a third less than two weeks in Menorca. A holiday to Orlando for a family of four from the UK is a whopping £1,240 less (more than a third cheaper) than in Ibiza.

TravelSupermarket price data found that holidays to Bali and Orlando are showing the biggest year on year price drops, with holidays to Bali around16% cheaper, holidays to Orlando an average 11% cheaper.

Looking at the destinations that Brits are searching for, Bali has seen a 94% year on year increase in interest, making it a win-win.

Travellers looking to make the most of this research can fly Tuesday 15th August from Heathrow to Orlando for a fortnight on a room-only three-star break from just £496 per person (based on a family of four). In Ibiza or Menorca on the same date, this holiday will cost £806 per person - that's 62% more expensive. For Bali, the holiday costs £789 per person.

There are also deals available from airports outside the south east, with trips to Orlando from the North West costing 13 per cent cheaper for families than to Ibiza. Fly direct from Manchester to Orlando on 15 August and you'll pay £574 for a two-week holiday, compared to £776 to Ibiza.

Thailand also offers better value. For example, holidaymakers can fly to Phuket on Monday 14 August for a fortnight, bed and breakfast in a four-star hotel from £723 each from Manchester. Swap the destination for Menorca and the price rises to £958 each.

While many people think their holiday budget only stretches to the Med, TravelSupermarket's research shows there are many long-haul bargains to be had - and not just for families as the deals apply to couples.

Emma Coulthurst, travel expert at the company, says: "The cost of living is also a lot cheaper in places like Bali and Thailand than it is in Spain. A three-course meal in a mid-range restaurant in Bali or Thailand will only set you back around £7-8 and a pint of local beer about £1.20 to £1.60. So, you can save more when you get there too."
