Airbnb hosts 'more likely to reject people with disabilities'

Airbnb hosts are reportedly more likely to reject people with disabilities according to a new study.

Researchers who examined at 3800 requests found that hosts pre-approved 75% of travellers who didn't say anything about a disability.

But, only 61% of people who said they had dwarfism were approved.

It was 50% for respondents with blindness and 43% for people with cerebral palsy while the figure was 25% for people with spinal cord injuries.

The researchers said the rejections weren't necessarily based on personal prejudice, though: Physical inaccessibility was a factor.

The study was carried out over a six month period last year.

Airbnb has made moves to meet the needs of people living with disabilities.

In 2016, the company introduced a non-discrimination policy.

They also took steps to handle bias complaints.
