British man arrested for attempted murder after stepping off plane

A British man was arrested for attempted murder as he stepped off a plane in Tenerife from Scotland.

The man, 41, has been on the run for nearly a year after an incident in Los Cristianos in which two British men were stabbed by two men who fled the scene in an Audi with UK licence plates.

One of the suspects was arrested in a bar three weeks after the incident and sent to prison, but the other fled the island. He was arrested upon return to Tenerife from Glasgow despite changing his name.

Speaking to The Sun, a spokesman for Spain's National Police said: "The arrest relates to an incident that occurred nearly a year ago when the detainee and another man arrested days after the incident, allegedly stabbed and beat up another two men aged 30 and 45 who they left seriously injured.

"The two English victims were attacked on July 24 last year in San Francisco Avenue in Adeje by two men who were driving a high-end car and were armed with a knuckleduster and knife.

"They fled in the same vehicle."

Police were said to be working on the theory that the attack was about a "settling of scores".

The news comes just a few weeks after two British holidaymakers were shot following a row with a fellow tourist from the UK in a bar in Spain.

One of the men was hit in the leg and the other in the foot during the incident that occurred at The Seaside bar in the resort of Fuengirola, reports the Daily Mail.

The suspected gunman, aged 42, was also treated for head injuries. It is thought an argument inside the bar spilled out onto the pavement.
