Thieves kill man after running him over in his own car

A man has been killed by thieves who ran him over in his own car after he confronted them outside his home, police said.

Michael Samwell, 35, died after going to stop his black Audi A3 being taken in the early hours of Sunday in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said Mr Samwell appeared to have been "run over by the vehicle, causing his injuries" as the thieves fled the scene in Cranbourne Road at 3am.

A murder investigation has been launched.
