Hapless lorry driver chases truck after leaving handbrake off

Shocking video footage has emerged that shows a hapless lorry driver chasing his runaway truck down a slip road after he forgot to put the handbrake on.

The driver can be seen running down a slip road towards the A50 in Stoke-on-Trent while carrying a large scaffolding pole that appears to have fallen from the truck's trailer.
The men who filmed the incident can be heard sniggering as they pass the elderly driver, who continues to run down the slip road in pursuit of the truck.

When it eventually reaches the end of the road, the two men can be heard shouting as the large white lorry rolls on to the busy A-road and crashes into the central reservation.

Luckily, no cars crashed into the truck, although a silver Porsche Boxster can be seen slamming its brakes on and blaring its horn as the lorry crosses in front of it.

The footage was uploaded to Facebook yesterday by Mohammed Zahir from Stoke-on-Trent, bearing the caption "Put your handbrake on".

It is unclear whether anyone was hurt in the incident.
