According to ITV News, the mid-air labour began after the plane took off from Guinea for Burkina Faso.

The mother, Nafi Diaby, was 28 weeks pregnant and gave birth on the two hours and ten minutes' flight.

Turkish Airlines told the BBC: "The cabin crew noticed that a woman passenger named Nafi Diaby, [who was] 28 weeks into her pregnancy, was suffering childbirth pains.

"They promptly responded to assist her childbirth during the flight."

The newborn was named Kadiju. She and her mother were taken to hospital when the flight landed in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
